Interview “Things I Wished I’d Known”

I’ve been fortunate to have been featured in a fair few photographic magazines over the years and the odd podcast.

Terry Hope is a name that is well-known in the photography press as a writer, editor, and book author.

I first met Terry in the mid-2000 on a car testing track when he interviewed me about my car photography at that time.

“Whoever You Want To Be” Stonar School

A lovely campaign called “Whoever You Want To Be” for private school Stonar that I photographed and composited together a while ago.

Commercial Photography Shoot, Seeing Double For Stonar

A few weeks ago I received a call from Ice House Design In Bath which is always exciting as I’ve had some lovely briefs from them in the past.
It turned out this call was to chat about another interesting brief titled ” Whoever You Want To Be” for a private school in Bath called Stonar.

The concept was to show the wide variety of activities and opportunities the school offed by showing the same students repeated in the image but in other outfits.
After a brief chat about what I thought might be the best solution to getting the job shot and retouched Jack from Ice House explained about the rather tight deadlines that needed to be met.
The completion dates required happened to be bang in the middle of one of the busiest periods I’ve known as well a family holiday but a doable schedule was drawn up and the job was booked in.

The shoot itself was shot on location at a beautiful 18th-century Georgian mansion called Hartham Park close to Bath.
Upon arrival on the shoot day, It seemed every corner of Haytham’s interior offered me another photographic opportunity and the phrase “Kid Candy Shop” comes to mind.

Finally though myself and Les, the creative director narrowed it down two rooms that fitted the brief perfectly and the job was completed within our allotted time.

A few days (and early hours) in the post was needed to meet a couple of the deadlines but the whole job went together without any drama and more importantly, the client & agency were very pleased with the results.

Advertising Photography Capturing Chefs In Copenhagen

Advertising Photography Capturing Chefs In Copenhagen

This image is from an advertising shoot last year for Knorr which took me to Copenhagen for a whirlwind shoot.
This was not my first trip into Europe for Knorr having previously shot in Rotterdam a couple of times. I was once again briefed by Bristol agency Flourish to what was required for the product which was for Unilever‘s Knorr Artisan range.

Commercial Photo Shoot, Yeovil Town F.C. Community Sports Trust

Commercial Photo Shoot, Yeovil Town F.C. Community Sports Trust

Combining two of my passions in Commercial Photography & Football is as my mum would have phrased it “like having your cake and eating it !” My son now 11 and a half has been at Yeovil as a player since he was around 7 years old. As a result of spending a lot of time at the club for training sessions and games, the Yeovil Town Community Trust learnt of my work as a commercial photographer in Somerset and asked if I could help them with their imagery & promotional needs. The Trust is the charity arm of Yeovil Town F.C and also run the Youth teams and training sessions and various other work within the local community.

The latest images they required (show here) were to illustrate the various Development Centres that are located around Somerset and their appropriate kits for a new website launch. Having full creative freedom I decided that the kits and model would look great captured against a white clean background and then to create some impact with the creative use of lighting.

The trust knowing my son had recently modelled in a video for the NSPCC and the fact the budget was tight being a charity asked if he would model the kits for the shoot.

Here are a few of the images with the completed photo retouching.

Protexin, An Engaging Video Solution

We find ourselves quite fortunate more often than not to work for some very nice people / clients.
It’s only natural that we actively seek out companies and agencies whom we believe are not only a good fit with the type of work we do and enjoy but also who are known to be great people to work with.

Protexin are one of those such companies based not too far from our studio who we had heard great things about.
They had some very impressive new premises and won several awards including being voted one of the best local employers to work for.
I should add Protexin manufacturer pro biotic products for both human and veterinary consumption.
After several phone calls and mailers we met up with the marketing team over a coffee at our studio cafe to discuss some ideas we had for them.
As it turned out what we had to say and show went down very well solving a particular problem the team where seeking a solution for.

Below is the first of several videos we are producing over the next several months to help Protexin showcase their production & premises to their overseas clients in a contemporary engaging way.
