Holiday Park & Leisure Park Photography: Three Projects for Leisure Concepts

“Drone and holiday park photography in Yorkshire and Somerset”

This summer I photographed three holiday parks for a new client, Leisure Concepts.

They’re an interior design and architecture group based in Kenilworth, with over 30 years designing hotels, resorts and leisure venues. Their clients include Haven, Butlins, Warner and Away Resorts.

The brief was to document their design work and the refitting of key areas such as the pools, restaurants and shops. All three parks are now owned by Unity Holidays, which has been investing heavily in them.

Seven Lakes, Crowle, near Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire

My first shoot was in Lincolnshire.

The location was a country park with ten lakes and a lot of woodland.

The weather was a little unsettled, which was fine for the interiors, as I prefer to avoid bright shafts of light across the floors and furniture, which can distract attention from the decor.

Outside, however its always nice to have sunshine, especially when shooting for the travel industry.

We captured the decking lakeside and then launched the drone for some views to showcase the location.

Skirlington Coast, near Bridlington, East Yorkshire

The second location was on the coast.

Skirlington sits on the clifftop between Skipsea and Atwick, near Bridlington. 

I have family in Yorkshire, so I could shoot the job and catch up with them too for a couple of days.

Glad to say the sun did shine for us on this shoot, which was perfect as the location was especially impressive from the air showcasing the colourful site full of holiday makers and impressive coastal views.

Unity Beach, Brean, Somerset

My final shoot was close to home. Unity Beach at Brean is a short drive from Burnham-on-Sea, where I grew up. It’s one of the UK’s largest family holiday parks, and it was interesting to see it with its new look.

I’ve spent a fair bit of time here as a teenager, and although I was aware of the changes, I was quite blown away by just how much the area had changed and the sheer size of the site.

All 3 sites had some impressive facilities 

Pools, restaurants and shops each bring their own challenges, from reflections and mixed lighting to working around guests. The aim is to show what the designer intended, not just to document a room.

The drone was especially useful on this commission, enabling us to capture both stills and some video footage that showed the scale of the sites.

It’s always a pleasure to start working with a new client, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it leads.
